Natural bone mineral for bone grafting in maxillofacial surgery

BIO-OSS is a natural inorganic bone matrix which is got from derivation of bovine bone in a way of all organic components removing. Because of the fact that BIO-OSS has its own natural structure, it can be in a form of spongy and cortical granules as well as a form of sponge blocks.

Chemically BIO-OSS can be compared with mineralized human bone (low natural crystallized apatite). Crystal size is approximately 400x100A (e.g. the length of synthetic hydroxyapatite crystal is 1000 A). Internal surface area is approximately 100 m2/g. BIO-OSS granules are sterilized with dry heat help; BIO-OSS spongy blocks are sterilized with gamma radiation usage. BIO-OSS collagen is a combination of 100 mg of sponge granules and 10% of collagen fibers which give the material a form of blocks; it is sterilized by gamma radiation usage.

Properties:

BIO-OSS: BIO-OSS inorganic bone matrix has a similar micro-and macroscopic structure with human cancellous bone. The presence of large pores makes the new bone formation and rooting easier. BIO-OSS consistency: BIO-OSS is gradually changing under the action of osteoclasts and osteoblasts. BIO-OSS applying shows, when it is impossible or there are no indications for autologous bone usage.

BIO-OSS has a similar micro-and macroscopic structure with human cancellous bone.
BIO-OSS collagen: the consistency of this material allows it to take the form of the defect very easy. Collagen provides the fixation of BIO-OSS in the desired place. Collagen is slowly resorbed and replaced by bone cells.

BIO-OSS is used for alveolar crest reconstruction:

- defects' filling after tooth root resection, cystectomy, surgical teeth removal;
- holes' filling for crest contour preserving;
- in implantology is used for: implantation zone preparing; implant stabilization which was installed immediately after tooth removal; bone thinning.
- in a process of alveolar bone defects reconstruction;
- in Periodontology is used for: periodontal defects filling (intraosseous defects); membranes stabilization (directed tissue regeneration - DTR).

BIO-OSS foam block:

BIO-OSS Collagen: large bone defects filling after granulation tissue removal and after defect exposure with the help of muco-periosteal flap.

BIO-OSS: sponge blocks get their shape with scalpel usage, after which the block is entered into the bone cavity easily and without any problems. If it is necessary, the block can be wetted with patient's own blood.

Contraindications

BIO-OSS and BIO-OSS Collagen should not be used if patient has:

- an acute or chronic infection (osteomyelitis) in the area where the surgery should be performed
- metabolic disorders (diabetes, hyperparathyroidism, osteomalacia)
- osteoporosis
- severe renal insufficiency or severe liver disease
- corticosteroid therapy (high dose or overdose)

Precaution:

In order to achieve a new bone BIO-OSS is implanted with the bone surface direct contact in the area of a good vascularization. If large defects are present, then the usage of autogenous bone or medulla in mixture can better the formation of new bone.

Periodontics: Periodontal defects filling with BIO-OSS Collagen requires (in addition to plaque removing) a successful local treatment of periodontal disease (tooth root processing, sanitation) before the process of BIO-OSS implantation.

Adverse reactions:

By-effects of BIO-OSS usage were not observed. BIO-OSS Collagen: contains collagen; the appearing of allergic reactions can't be excluded.

I'm using this company's medications for already more than 7 years and any by-effects or complications were not observed.
